Scottish Workers Pick Job Security, Flexible Working And Competitive Pay As Top Reasons To Stay In Their Jobs

7th November 2022

A new survey from Acas has revealed that job security, flexible working and competitive pay are the top reasons given by Scottish employees for choosing to remain in their current jobs.

Acas commissioned YouGov to ask employees of Scotland-based businesses what are the three most important things that are keeping them in their current main job. The poll found that:

45% chose job security;
41% flexible working; and
39% picked competitive pay.

Acas's Assistant Director Scotland Ian Proctor said, "Our latest survey gives Scottish employers a crucial insight into what their employees currently value most in their job.

"For workers in Scotland, job security, flexible working and competitive pay are the three main things keeping them in their current roles.

"These findings can help employers when they are considering the types of workplace practices and benefits that aim to attract and retain talent."

Acas's advice is that building good staff relations and supporting flexible working can help businesses attract and retain staff as well as increase staff productivity. Flexible working can allow employees to balance work effectively with their personal life and responsibilities.

There are many types of flexible working, such as:
Part-time working
Flexible start and finish times
Compressed hours where a staff member can do their hours over fewer days
Sharing a job with someone else;
Working from home or remotely full time; or
Hybrid working where someone may work from home or remotely on some days of the week.
