ScotRail confirms normal service will resume on Tuesday, 8 November

ScotRail has confirmed that its full timetable will resume on Tuesday, 8 November following confirmation that planned strike action on 7 and 9 November by RMT trade union members of Network Rail has been suspended to allow for further pay negotiations.

ScotRail is working with Network Rail to ensure routes are ready for services to operate as soon as possible, however, the train operator has been advised by Network Rail that it will not be possible to operate all routes until Tuesday.

The train operator has been working around the clock to restore the full timetable since the announcement - a complex process which involves rewriting train timetables and rosters for thousands of our staff, and getting trains to where they need to be.

On Monday, 7 November, ScotRail will operate the limited timetable that was due to be in place during the strike action planned for that day, with the addition of services between Carlisle and Dumfries, Ayr and Stranraer, Inverness and Wick, and between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh.

Customers are being advised to only travel if they really need to.

As of Saturday afternoon, a limited service is confirmed to operate on following routes on Monday, 7 November, with most routes only operating between 07:30 and 1830:

Edinburgh Waverley - Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High: two trains per hour
Edinburgh Waverley – Helensburgh Central: two trains per hour (on 5 November this will operate Edinburgh Waverley - Dalmuir only due to pre-planned engineering works)
Glasgow Central – Hamilton/Larkhall: two trains per hour
Glasgow Central – Lanark: two trains per hour
Edinburgh Waverley – Glasgow Central via Shotts: one train per hour
Edinburgh Waverley – Cowdenbeath: two trains per hour
Edinburgh Waverley – Tweedbank: two trains per hour
Edinburgh Waverley - Larbert: one train per hour
Glasgow Queen Street – Larbert: one train per hour
Glasgow Queen Street – Falkirk Grahamston: one train per hour
Milngavie – Springburn: two trains per hour
Carlisle – Dumfries: normal weekday service
Ayr – Stranraer: normal weekday service
Inverness – Wick: normal weekday service
Inverness – Kyle of Lochalsh: normal weekday service

ScotRail is working to add more services and routes for operation on Monday, 7 November, so the train operator is encouraging customers planning to travel to check their entire journey before they head to the station.

"Strike action does nothing for the railway's recovery or reputation at this fragile time. It impacts customers, staff, and the economy. 

"We're working hard to restore a normal timetable for Tuesday, 8 November to deliver a service our customers expect and deserve.

“A very limited service will operate on Monday, 7 November. We’d encourage anyone planning to travel by rail over the next few days to check their entire journey before travel on our website or social media channels." 

Liam Sumpter, Network Rail Scotland Route Director, said, "While it is positive news that the RMT has called off these strikes, the very late notice means that it is not possible to reintroduce a full timetable on Saturday and Monday.

“We are working hard alongside ScotRail and our other operators to reintroduce services as quickly as possible for customers.

“We remain committed to working positively with our trades unions to find a resolution to this dispute."
