In the run up to Christmas perhaps you may have not have thought to check if they you not claimed for a range of expenses. You can claim back for 6 years for some of them. Many employees forget to claim expenses or think it is too difficult. It is not difficult to think about what you spend in relation to your work and then check if it is allowable against tax. It will take a few minutes to read about it but it will pay to check and may get you a nice tax rebate and then paying less tax for many years to come.

You may be able to claim tax relief for additional household costs if you have to work at home for all or part of the week.

It is well worth thinking about this for previous years that may amount to hundreds of pounds refundable. Future years may mean a reduction in amount of tax paid annually.

Most of the expenses listed by HMRC must be claimed and do not come automatically unless you have already claimed for say a subscription where the amounts are already agreed with unions or other bodies.

The areas that should looked at include -
Working from home
Uniforms, work clothing and tools
Vehicles you use for work
Professional fees and subscriptions
Travel and overnight expenses
Buying other equipment

This is not a difficult thing to do and some expenses such as subscriptions may be claimed without any problem as there are agreed amounts with union that can be applied annually once you make a claim.
