Despite life insurance being the cheapest type of cover to protect Brits and their families, many Scottish residents are opting to protect their cars and holidays instead.

A study by TopCashback, released today, reveals that around two thirds of the residents in Scotland don't have life insurance and are more likely to have home, travel and motor insurance instead. It also found that half of those who don't have life insurance said it was because it hadn't crossed their mind or it was too expensive.

Other key findings reveal that:

45 per cent of parents in Scotland do not have life insurance

Women are more likely to have life insurance than men in Scotland

Half of those who took out life insurance did so between the age of 21-30
