Campus Contractor Prepares for Bridge Installation

19th February 2013

Inverness Campus contractor Morgan Sindall is working with Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to ensure all final arrangements are in place before installing a new cycle and pedestrian bridge over the A9 in the coming weeks.

The bridge, which weighs 290 tonnes, is being pieced together on HIE’s Inverness Campus site, at Beechwood, East Inverness. Eighty-three metres long and nine metres wide, the bridge will provide a key link for cyclists and pedestrians from the Campus to the city centre.

Neil Duncan, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: “Good transport and pedestrian infrastructure is vital in a large-scale project such as Inverness Campus, so we are pleased to be putting into place this crucial piece in the development.

“As with all large projects which may affect the wider community, Morgan Sindall is liaising with neighbouring businesses, public transport providers and councils about the installation of the bridge. The bridge will be installed overnight to help minimise disruption to road users.”

Ruaraidh MacNeil, project director of HIE’s Inverness Campus, said: “It’s great to see the bridge coming to life.

“While there will be a slight disruption overnight on the 6 April, into the early hours of 7 April, I’m confident Morgan Sindall will work as quickly as possible to install the bridge. It’s really now all starting to take shape. Our aspirations for a nationally significant business, research and education campus are about to enter a very exciting phase.”
