Communities Urged to Maximise their Assets

Two seminars aimed at helping communities maximise their assets are being held this month. Organised by the Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Community Assets Team, formerly known as the HIE Community Land Unit, both seminars are open to community groups across the Highlands and Islands.

The first Seminar, 'Maximising Your Assets: Community Buildings' is for community organisations who own and manage, or aspire to own and manage, buildings and will look at several aspects of their sustainable management. This seminar is hosted by Seaboard Memorial Hall, Balintore on 9 and 10 November.

The second seminar, 'Maximising Your Assets: Making Money from Events and Festivals' aims to inspire community groups to run money-making events and festivals within their communities. This seminar is hosted by Craignish Community Company and will be held at Ardfern, Argyll on 18 and 19 November.

Pam Noble of the Community Assets team said: "Community groups often own and manage a number of valuable assets, and these seminars are designed to help the groups make the most of them."

Sandra Holmes, Acting Head of HIE's newly re-named Community Assets Team, said: "We've changed our name to reflect better the range of work we are doing, as evidenced by the forthcoming seminars. Community land buyouts are still central to what we are about. It's only a change in name. We'll continue to support communities to acquire and develop all types of income-generating assets."
