Guidelines for Laptop / Tablet Security
Your laptop whether for personal or business use is a valuable piece of equipment. If it contains sensitive information such as your banking details or your business or employers details then it may have a value way beyond even the cost of the machine itself. Here areas a few suggestions to think about keeping your laptop/tablet and information as safe as possible.
In the Office / General:
• Lock your laptop when not in use;
• Never leave your laptop in meeting room or conference room unattended;
• Do not write down or share your login / password; and
• Do not let unauthorised users use your laptop.
Travelling / Out of Office:
• Always keep your laptop with you and never leave unattended;
• Try to avoid using computer bags when in public places as this makes the laptop more obvious to others;
• Do not check laptop in as luggage and, when it must be left in a car, leave in the boot and under cover;
• If your laptop has to be left in a hotel room, where possible make use of lockable storage, or put in a non-obvious place and leave "Do not disturb" sign on the door; and
• When using your laptop in public be on guard to prevent unauthorised users reading
information contained on the screen.
