Glasgow Property Director Given 12 Year Disqualification For False Claims to Bounce Back Loans
Director of property management companies took three Bounce Back Loans to fund house purchase and cash the sale proceeds.   Brendan Michael Gaughan, 40, from Glasgow has been disqualified as a director for 12 years, after using his companies to take out Bounce Back Loans totalling £135,000 that the companies were not eligible for.

More than one million families claiming tax credits to receive second Cost of Living Payment from 23 November
More than one million claimant families receiving tax credits, and no other means-tested benefits, will get their second Cost of Living Payment from Wednesday 23 November 2022, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has confirmed.   This £324 UK Government payment will be paid automatically into most eligible tax credit-only customers' bank accounts between 23 and 30 November 2022 across the United Kingdom.

10.1 Per Cent Benefits Rise Due Next April Crucial To Helping 10 Million Working-age Families Through Deepening Cost-of-living Crisis
CPI inflation increased by 10.1 per cent in September - driven by surging food prices – which should prompt a significant increase in benefits next April that will help to support families through the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, the Resolution Foundation said on Wednesday 19 October 2022.   The Foundation notes that inflation in September was driven by rising food prices, which are rising at their fastest rate since 1989, and partially offset by falling petrol prices (which have since stabilised).

UNISON, and sister trade unions Unite and GMB, are threatening pull out local government school staff and refuse workers on strike again.   Strike action was suspended after UNISON members voted for an offer which was made to them by COSLA on 2nd September 2022.

Public Sector Finances UK September 2022
Public sector net borrowing excluding public sector banks (PSNB ex) was £20.0 billion in September 2022, which was £2.2 billion more than in September 2021 and the second highest September borrowing since monthly records began in 1993, being £8.2 billion lower than in September 2020 at the height of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.   Central government current (or day-to-day) expenditure was £79.3 billion in September 2022, which was £5.8 billion more than in September 2021; this largely reflected a £2.5 billion increase in debt interest payable, and a £4.4 billion increase in net social benefit payments being partially offset by a £1.4 billion reduction in subsidy payments.

In September 2022, just over a quarter (26%) of trading businesses reported their turnover was lower compared with August 2022, while 14% reported their turnover was higher (a net 12% of businesses saying turnover decreased); the accommodation and food service activities industry reported the largest percentage of businesses whose turnover was lower, at 52%.   In early October 2022, more than a third (35%) of trading businesses reported economic uncertainty was having an impact on their turnover; while one in five (21%) trading businesses expect their turnover to decrease in November 2022.
