£324 Payment To Hit Bank Accounts From Today - Over 8 million households
Almost one in four families across the UK will receive £324 from the government this month as the latest Cost of Living Payments are sent out from today (8 November 2022).   Over 8 million households in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland who claimed qualifying means-tested benefits during the eligibility period will be automatically paid £324 this month, as part of £1,200 worth of direct help for households.

Fm Confirms Another £5 Million At Cop27
FM confirms another £5 million at COP27 and urges countries to follow suit.   Can Scotland afford this when John Swinney has announced over one billion pounds of cuts in Scotland? An additional £5 million of funding to tackle loss and damage has been announced by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon at the COP27 climate summit.

Video Consultation Scheme For Patients Rolled Out To Community Hubs
The Near Me video consultation scheme is being extended so patients can use it in community settings such as libraries, community and health and care facilities as well as their own home.   The platform is already being used for around 40,000 consultations a month, helping to ease pressure on the health service, and saving people time and money travelling to appointments.

The Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) (Scotland) Act gives Ministers temporary powers to cap rent increases for private and social tenants, as well as for student accommodation, until at least 31 March 2023, effectively freezing rents for most tenants during this period.   The legislation also prevents the enforcement of eviction actions resulting from the current cost of living crisis and includes a reform of the law on damages for unlawful evictions.

Recent first-time buyers will be hit hard by surging interest rates, with their lifetime interest costs more than doubling over the past five years.  Their total lifetime costs are reaching record highs, although coming house price falls will offer some respite to the next generation of homeowners, according to new Resolution Foundation analysis.

Cop27 Begins
The First Minister will today call on world leaders to deliver on the commitments they made in the Glasgow Climate Pact, as she attends the first full day of the COP27 climate conference in Egypt.   The First Minister will take part in an all-female panel discussion on financing decarbonisation with government leaders, including the Prime Minister of Barbados.

A new survey from Acas has revealed that job security, flexible working and competitive pay are the top reasons given by Scottish employees for choosing to remain in their current jobs.   Acas commissioned YouGov to ask employees of Scotland-based businesses what are the three most important things that are keeping them in their current main job.
