Strengthening The Role Of Women In Climate Action
Funding to ensure women from Global South have say on climate.   A package of measures to strengthen the role of women from the Global South in climate action has been announced at COP27 by Environment Minister Mairi McAllan.

Scotland Leads Global Action For Nature
Over 280 governments, cities and local authorities across the world now support an ambitious Scottish Government-led international plan for nature - and it is hoped more will sign up at COP27.   The Edinburgh Declaration is a shared agreement to protect and preserve global biodiversity and has recently been signed by the State of Jalisco, Mexico, the city of Quebec, Canada, and the City of Sydney, Australia.

Supporting Agricultural Innovation
The latest cycle of a programme promoting sustainable innovation and transformational change in the agricultural sector has taken a step forward.   Backed by £1.7 million of funding, nine farms across Scotland will take part in the Scottish Monitor Farm Programme (MFP).

Scottish Prison Population Statistics 2021-22
Justice system responses to Covid related public health measures continued to impact the Scottish prison population in 2021-22 according to statistics published by the Chief Statistician today.   Overall prison population levels rose by just 1% on 2020-21 figures, remaining stable at just over 7,500 in 2021-22.

Warning Against A Return To Austerity - Calls for inflationary uplift to Scottish Budget
A return to austerity would have significant consequences for people and public services, Deputy First Minister John Swinney has warned ahead of the UK Government's Autumn Statement.   Mr Swinney has called for an alternative to austerity to avoid the UK Government "prolonging" the recession that the Bank of England forecasts may be the longest in 100 years.

The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 9.6% in the 12 months to October 2022, up from 8.8% in September 2022.   The largest upward contributions to the annual CPIH inflation rate in October 2022 came from housing and household services (principally from electricity, gas, and other fuels), food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transport (principally motor fuels).

Over Seven Million £324 Payments Made To Families By Government In Last Week Alone
Over seven million payments of £324 have already been made to low-income families through the government's cost of living support.   This means £2.3 billion has been paid out to over 99% of those eligible via DWP across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland since the beginning of the rollout last Tuesday.

Scotland To Push Energy, Nature And Justice At Cop27
Scotland will bring to COP27 its experience of work to deliver a just transition in the energy sector to support other countries to make the shift to renewable and cleaner, greener energy, Environment Minister Màiri McAllan has said.   Speaking ahead of a first full day of meetings and engagements at COP27 in Sharm-El-Sheikh, the Minister said that an approach to energy security which focuses on sustainability, energy efficiency and renewable and low carbon energy is far better than increasing reliance on fossil fuels.

Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) annual inflation was 10.5% for low-income households (those in the second income decile) and 9.1% for high-income households (those in the ninth income decile) in the year to October 2022, compared with an all-households rate of 9.6%.   Consumer Prices Index (CPI) annual inflation was 11.9% for low-income households (those in the second income decile) and 10.5% for high-income households (those in the ninth income decile) in the year to October 2022, compared with an all-households rate of 11.1%.
